The two companies activities overlap with respect to Luminex immunoassays and air monitoring systems, the Commission says. However, the combined market share of the two companies is low in these areas. The US company Luminex makes instruments which are used in assays distributed by other companies, including Millipore.
Given the presence of strong alternative competitors, the merger does not give rise to competition concerns. Overall, the transaction is largely complementary, the Commission concludes.
The acquisition is expected to complete early in the third quarter. Millipore’s shareholders voted in favor of the merger at the beginning of June.
